A lot more girls hang around boys and to be accepted or taken seriously they tend to act like the boys they hang around. It is a form of acceptance, many females are taken advantage of by males and to counter this it is better for them to appear to also have masculine and aggressive features.
On top of this, there are also many girl-gangs and these gangs need to have a ruthlessness that is not natural for females. Yeah, it’s not really a pleasant thing to read but it is the reality.
Girls don’t want to be seen as step overs, doormats or sex dolls, they want respect and in order to get that in a predominantly male environment they have to become their environment.
But, this trait is not only evident in young girls it is also becoming evident in women who work in the corridors of corporate England. In a man’s world, the only people who get heard and respected are men, so nowadays you notice more females becoming dominant, masculine and aggressive in their approach to work, JUST to be taken seriously. Perhaps, the young girls see this and feel that if they start early it would provide them with a head start in surviving within a man’s world.
If you watch the Tv series Mad Men you see the roles women were relegated to, servants for the powerhouse men. Over time, this whole era of “independent” women has also fuelled how women interact with men and vice versa. The stone cold fact is, it is still a “man’s world” and this contributes to the drastic changes women make to themselves in order to succeed in such a world.
How do you feel about this?
Do you think women are forced to adopt these roles or are they choosing to adopt these roles?
